Sex Robot Will Also Engage You in Conversation

Sex Robot

You've probably heard all about it by now, but not so fast! The world's first sex robot will not only do your bidding but will engage you in small talk to boot. The automaton was unveiled this weekend at the Adult Entertainment Expo, held in Las Vegas.

The life-size rubber playmate will respond verbally to your touch, thanks to strategically placed sensors connected to cables and a laptop. When touched in a specific spot, the robot replies from an internal speaker.

The brains behind this latest transistor sex toy is Douglas Hines, founder of Lincoln Park, N.J.,-based True Companion LLC. Hines calls the model Roxy, and he swears that she can carry on a simple conversation that can make an owner feel a warm and fuzzy connection (pardon the pun).

"Sex only goes so far -- then you want to be able to talk to the person," Hines said. Roxy's ability to converse will be expanded via Internet updates that it will receive over its built-in laptop. The robot will also be able to synthesize phrases out of prerecorded words and sounds. And get this, if you don't mind snoring, Roxy is quite capable of doing this as well.

Potential buyers will be able to pick and choose personality types from the wildest of women to the most demure, but all of these wares come at a steep price. If you're in the market for the toy, you can expect to pay anywhere from $7,000 to $9,000, including the laptop. Hines hopes to start shipping these robotic dolls within the next few months.

Hey, don't judge Hines. The quirky inventor offers one thought: "The sex robot thing is marketing -- it's really about making a companion," he said.
